Digital Distribution.
It’s 2010 and distributing games digitally is becoming more popular, the developer can get direct feedback on the product right after the digital launch, with a retail launch, there are at least 4 weeks between the finished game and getting it to the stores.
- Microsoft, Sony and Steam are really pushing the digital distribution of games with their services these days, Microsoft is using Downloadable Content as one of their pillars why people have to get a Xbox360.
- Sony on the other hand has a great cataloug of Playstation 1 games and DLC as well, on the Xbox360 you can download “Xbox Originals” like you download Playstation 1 games on your Playstation 3 trough the PS-Network.
- Steam (Valve) is the biggest player in the digital distribution of P.C games, they have “exploded” in 2009 and now serve over 25million people with digital content.
We can safely say that downloading games and content is now part of the gaming industry, people are used to downloading extra content or even downloading a full game to their hard -drive.
Grand Theft Auto and DLC.
Rockstar jumped into the DLC market together with Microsoft for Grand Theft Auto IV with: The Lost And Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony ( Together: “Episodes From Liberty City” a disc which you can play without GTA IV)
Just yesterday Rockstar revealed that Episodes From Liberty City will also make it’s way to the Playstation Network(Sony) and Games for Windows Live ( Microsoft) so that everybody can enjoy the new GTA content no matter what platform.
High Definition Version of GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas?
Microsoft brought Xbox Originals to Xbox Live and Sony brought Playstation 1 games to the Playstation Network enabling gamers to play their old but favorite games again on their sparkling new machine with upgraded graphics and/or upscaled to fit HD screens.
This brings us as GTA ( Right? 
) fans to a really interesting discussion.
Could GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas be ‘upgraded’ to fit the Playstation 3 and be sold as the “GTA3 Trilogy [HD]” and be popular?
I have no doubt that it will be popular, the thing that IS a doubt: Are we ever going to see 3,ViceCity,San Andreas in one package created by Rockstar Games for these machines?
It’s fun to think about the posibilities that rise when you have the power of the Playstation 3 , but Rockstar is working on other and bigger projects this year which means we might not even see something like this, check out the images below, San Andreas with the famous ENB-Modification, is this how San Andreas would look like in a ‘upgraded’ way?

This would be huge for Rockstar. I would pay 1000$ to be able to play those games again in hd. Grand theft auto 4 was a massive disappointment for me. They went away from what the game was. Vice city and San Andreas have the most immersive characters and easily the “funnest” gameplay of them all. I had ZERO fun playing gta4

That would be my dream, i was very disappointed when i found the 160gb ps3 was not backwards compatible. I was hoping to be hitting the streets of San Andreas once again ( my fave game ). I think if rockstar knew of the demand for these games, they would be smart & make them for the ps3. I would also love to play vice city again. Rockstar would make alot of money if they did put them on ps3.

I’m gtad I noticed this site cause I’ve been saying this every since the Gamecube remade Resident Evil. I would be one of the first in line to buy if Rockstar made Next-Gen or HD remakes of GTA San Andreas & The Warriors. Even if they changed nothing (no added content) but the graphics. But if something was added to San Andreas, it would be a splitscreen 2-player mode so that the players/characters aren’t limited to a certain distance apart.

i know that microsoft have supposably that they have been upscaled but still find it hard to cope with the core graphics compared to Grand Theft Auto:IV which even the graphics could be improved on there aswell i think that rockstar in the future need to focus on grand theft auto which is in my opinion twice as good as the call of duty sereis what happened to a couple of years ago when everybody played GTA you are failing to bring us amazing games you have dissapointed us all because Red Dead Redemption was quite a good game then you made LA NOIRE very dissapointed when i paid £40 i was hoping that it might have been like a 1940s version of true crime that was in my opinion very perhaps you should think about a bad cop kind of thing i also think that having these remade would be brilliant and i promise that you would have yet another best seller.

Just take the game trilogy, put the gtaIV graphics engine, and the gtaIV physics engine, add Multiplayer support, and you just made like $500,000 in like 1-2 years congrats Rockstar you just remade a blockbuster game and its a blockbuster game again, but for Next-Gen…… it would be great. Oh and price it at like $60-$80 and add 150 achievements/trophies. 50 for each episode

Vice city was immense. I fucking loved that game. Then they released san andreas, that shit was epic. You can not beat these games hands down. the playing level on these games was sick. Yes, definintly rockstar should remake all the grand theft autos for Xbox 360 and PS3. It would be amazing. Sanandreas is my favorite. But a remanke should be made for at least SA, VC, 3, Liberty city stories, and VC stories. i would def buy them for sure!

Why no xbox live and really I’d like to see HD remakes of vice city and vice city stories for both systems. I mean come on please stop with the ps3 exclusive stuff you guys have more exclusive games than us (we had Bioshock but you guys whined and ended up getting a more high def version) and you guys have god of war, ratchet and clank, resistance, infamous, uncharted and Metal Gear and we only have gears of war, left 4 dead (which really isn’t exclusive for us(,Halo and Fable. so please stop with ps3 exclusive.

I’m thinking about this new game from Rockstar codenamed Rush, that takes place in the Hollywood/Beverly Hills and surrounding areas. Some say it is GTAV. I’m thinking it could very well be SA Stories or at least Los Santos Stories. If so I hope it comes to PS3 as well as PSP2.

Ive been wanting a san andreas remake for yearsssss. I purposely purchased a 60gb verision p3 just to have the capability of playing it! (which i still do), im sure they say they have bigger things to do but id bet my left testicle a remake of a previous ps2 Gta will sell alot more than a GTA 5. Enough said

San Andreas is the best game I ever played, and I dont think I will find another game that will please me as much. I hope they remake it, I also hope they will bring back the SA, Los Santos experience in a later game. Either GTAV or VI, plus SA Stories for both PSP2 and PS3. You can always hope!
What would be realy awsome is if they remade it and make it take place a little later like around this time so we can get better cars,weapons, ect. and put other features into the game like more territorys and so we dont get bored a different storyline, character, and maybe you start out in one of the other gangs like the Vagos. and graphics is a must. If there is any game that merits a re-release it is San Andreas. The game is so endless and timeless it still haunts my dreams. The only reason I am not playing it right now is cause my ps2 is a paperweight and my ps3 doesn’t have the backward compatibility. So I’m just stuck waiting and praying for the new and better version and will be prepared to purchase it again forthwith.

Rockster you really do need 2 remake San Andreas with a little extra persks like more music from Eazy E, longer hair styles like gerri curls. I loved the missions. more crip type cloths should be added. San Andreas was the best of all GTA’s I played that for hours on end. the 90′s was the best G’star years.

A remake of the classic three would be perfect. I baught 5 ps2 coppies of San Andreas the first three months it came out pluse I downloaded it again on the 360. The controls are different and the ghraphics are blurry but, I still rather play it then any other came that has come out. If a remake never comes out that’s fine I’ll continue playing the original.

San Andreas was one of the coolest games ever made. Especially one in an open-world environment. Exceptionally better than GTA 4. Carl was also pretty cool. He had a sweet wardrobe, a sweet fro and a sweet customized ride. He even had his license to fly bitches and his very own airstrip. Although, it’s understandable why they didn’t allow us to fly a Linear Jet around Liberty City.

I would love to see grand theft auto San Andreas come back as a dlc or actual disc based game, with HD graphics. I was actually just thinking about this the other day. It would be amazing if rockstar could put these games back out while were waiting for the new GTA. I would have no hesitation to buy the games redone for the ps3 for the full price of games today because San Andreas is my favorite game of all time. But for some reason I feel like I’m just dreaming and well probably never see this, but it would be great.

yes, yes, yes, do it, remake it San Andreas with the graphics, style and physics of gta 4, but dont change the main story, keep all the cheats, sure add a few more cheats, a few side missions, cars, etc. but yes remake it, it will be awesome!

Sony re-released God of War I and II; I don’t see why Rockstar shouldn’t do the same thing. I don’t know about GTA3 so much, but i still find myself on occasion, tinkering around with Vice City or San Andreas. I think both would be valuable to the PS3 and XBOX360 fans and i know I’d be first in line to pre-order if I could play these games on my PS3. I think the sheer fact that there are multiple forums and threads regarding this issue should be a signal to Rockstar that we want these games on our next-gen consoles!!!

As i am still pissed about San Andreas Stories never being made, i would be stoked to see SA in HD even if the only changes where to the upgrade in graphics. With that being said, Rockstar better be on the way with GTA IV Vice City and then after that SA, because personally i’m finding the lands in Just Cause 2 and Red Dead Redemption better than these Sky Scrapper infested lands of GTA IV LC.

This would be awesome, would definately buy this first day of release. Even if it was just an update to HD and put on a blue-ray I would buy it. Any other extras would just be a generous bonus from R*.
Saying that would love to play vice city with decent gameplay, the only one of the PS2 5 I never bothered to get 100% on, gameplay is horrific.

first of all: HELL YEAH!!! and second if rockstar knows their fans they probably would already be on a project like that, maybe even half done it by now. if they remake those great gta classics they will make a lot of their fans happy and they would make a large profit from it too. thats a no brainer.

i think it would be realy good to bring san andreas on to ps3 and xbox as long as they keep areoplane, n jumbo jets etc because i was a bit dissapointed when a couldnt use one on gta iv i still think san andreas is the is the best gta game.

The only reason someone will convince me to buy this GTA 3, San Andreas, Vice City Stories, Liberty City Stories all in one is:
1. HD Upgrade
2. PS3 Trophies
3. Commentary on making of the game.
4. Demo of next GTA Game (if there is)
5. Destroying all known glitches.
6. Online-Play (if any of the PS2 versions had online-play that is)
7. Basically to sum it up, it should be JUST like the GoW Collection. X)
you dont want to know what i would do for a HD, trophy enabled remake of the GTA series.
i wish sony would buy a developer and there sole job was taking ps1 or ps2 series and bringing them to the ps3.

only reason why i want remakes of these games is because old games are better than their new brothers.
for example resident evil is 10 times better than RE5.
devil may cry 2 is 10 times better than devil may cry 4.
crash bandicoot is 10 times better than say crash of the titans.
and so on, and so on.
ps1 games and some ps2 games are better than any ps3 game out there.
i have more fun playing my ps1 classics on my psp than i do playing my ps3 games.
Rockstar doesn’t have to do the work on this trilogy. Can’t they hire the people who did the God of War Collection? Just find a way to get rid of the popup issues. I don’t think the graphics need to be upgraded. It would be great to see the three games on one Blu-ray disc on the PS3.

I think that would be an amazing idea it would genreate a lot of revenue. I for one would be sure to pick that set up. I quite enjoyed the GTA series leading up to GTA IV [especially] San Andreas.(My favorite title of the bunch)

Like with the GOW Collection it would be good for gamers who never got a chance to play the PS2 version of theese games.
However i can’t imagine there are too many people out there who didn’t play theese games when they first came out, so if you already own theese games why would you want to buy them again?

Absolutely, Rockstar, absolutely! I would love to play those games again, in better (doesn’t have to be perfect) graphics, smoother gameplay and less bugs. I wouldn’t expect perfection, just obvious signs of work and I would buy that combo pack for $60 right now. Easy question…

I would definitely buy this. Day one. I have been wanting to play San Andreas again, along with GTA 3, on my big screen, not just on my PC. If they did this, all on one Blu-Ray, I would have a hard time not buying it on the day of release.

I would love Rockstar even more if they re-released all 3 GTAs on one Blu-ray. The following thing I would want Rockstar to do is:-
1.)720/1080p HD rebuild
2.) Have all 3 GTAs on one disc
3.) Redo the textures and lighting maybe even the models
4.) Make it have no loading times
5.) Ingame recording & ingame HDD music
6.) Add a freemode online(?!)
I would gladly put £65 down for that!
FUCK YEAH!!! If they re-released GTA:SA in HD and added online co-op and extra San Andreas episodes, that game would be the biggest selling game ever!! Fuck GTAIV, whatta disappointment! I wanna see more San Andreas stories!
I would love to see the God of War Collection treatment for these games, maybe put them to 1080p, add maybe 60 fps, 2x AA, improved lighting, textures, trophies, and they can improve the draw distance, and streaming, so games like GTA 3 can go freely one island to the other with no load screen! And then to top it off, have them all on one blu ray disc, with bonus features, such as the making of GTA etc. Also, even though i know this is getting a little to far in dreaming, they can add for San Andreas online modes, like for the mini games such as basketball, pool, as well as the co-op mode they have, maybe even making the co-op full split-screen ! I would love these upgrades, as they don’t necessarily mess with the core gameplay or change the classic GTA title, they will absolutely sell again, and might not even take that long, as God of War only took 3 months, and after the big attention and hype the next gen GTA has, so bringing the favorites will be worth it!
Love your contribution, yeah with the fanbase GTA has this could be a success for sure, it’s really a ‘present’ for the die-hard GTA fans who want to revisit the good ol’ times with some extra’s.
I’ve heard people say that the gameplay is to old compared to now, but like others stated as well: for the fans.
Yes please! – HD GTA 3 collection would not only sell well – it would remind us how good Rockstar were before they went the ‘realistic’ GTAIV route. I would definitely get this collection.
