Digital Distribution.
It’s 2010 and distributing games digitally is becoming more popular. The developer can get direct feedback about the product, right after the digital launch. With a retail launch, there are at least 4 weeks between the finished game and getting it to the stores.
- Microsoft, Sony and Steam are really pushing the digital distribution of games with their services these days, Microsoft is using Downloadable Content as one of their pillars why people have to get a Xbox360.
- Sony on the other hand has a great catalogue of Playstation 1 games and DLC as well. On the Xbox360 you can download “Xbox Originals” like you download Playstation 1 games on your Playstation 3 trough the PS-Network.
- Steam (download platform by the company Valve) is the biggest player in the digital distribution of P.C games. They have “exploded” in 2009 and now serve over 25 million people with digital content.
We can safely say that downloading games and content is now part of the gaming industry. People are used to downloading extra content or even downloading a full game to their hard drive.
Grand Theft Auto and DLC.
Rockstar jumped into the DLC market together with Microsoft for Grand Theft Auto IV with: The Lost And Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony ( Together: “Episodes From Liberty City” a disc which you can play without GTA IV)
Just yesterday Rockstar revealed that Episodes From Liberty City will also make it’s way to the Playstation Network(Sony) and Games for Windows Live ( Microsoft). This way everybody can enjoy the new GTA content no matter what platform.
High Definition Version of GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas?
Microsoft brought Xbox Originals to Xbox Live and Sony brought Playstation 1 games to the Playstation Network. Enabling gamers to play their old but favorite games again on their sparkling new machine with upgraded graphics and/or up scaled to fit HD screens.
This brings us as GTA ( Right? 
) fans to a really interesting discussion.
Could GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas be ‘upgraded’ to fit the Playstation 3 and be sold as the “GTA3 Trilogy [HD]” and be popular?
I have no doubt that it will be popular, the thing that IS a doubt: Are we ever going to see 3, Vice City and San Andreas in one package created by Rockstar Games for these machines?
It’s fun to think about the possibilities that rise when you have the power of the Playstation 3. But Rockstar is working on other and bigger projects this year which means we might not even see something like this. Check out the image below: San Andreas with the famous ENB-Modification. Is this how San Andreas would look like in a ‘upgraded’ way?

Sony re-released God of War I and II; I don’t see why Rockstar shouldn’t do the same thing. I don’t know about GTA3 so much, but i still find myself on occasion, tinkering around with Vice City or San Andreas. I think both would be valuable to the PS3 and XBOX360 fans and i know I’d be first in line to pre-order if I could play these games on my PS3. I think the sheer fact that there are multiple forums and threads regarding this issue should be a signal to Rockstar that we want these games on our next-gen consoles!!!
I pray to God that they make this game again!!! in ps3 graphics, also with an amazin online play and co-op and way more gameplay. San andreas was the best GTA game perioud ask anyone GTA 4 was a baby compared to this Granddaddy of a Game please Rockstar bring this game back to life you will not lose money, you will really Gain more money and fans base in return. i also read all these coments 99% of all of them were about bringing San Andreas back..i promise you Rockstar will be unstopable if they do this..so rockstar please bring us back home to San Andreas one last time…
not that i have a console, but speaking for if (or it seems more-so) when i do.
As i am still pissed about San Andreas Stories never being made, i would be stoked to see SA in HD even if the only changes where to the upgrade in graphics. With that being said, Rockstar better be on the way with GTA IV Vice City and then after that SA, because personally i’m finding the lands in Just Cause 2 and Red Dead Redemption better than these Sky Scrapper infested lands of GTA IV LC.
San Andreas remake sounds cool even with the same story just with a few new feature and some more eazy e songs. Also with more clothing options I really hope the San andreas remake comes soon for ps3

san andreas would look so good with a hd upgrade. i dont think i would ever be able to put it down. it was my favorite game on my ps2 and to be able to play it upgraded on my ps3 would be a dream come true. BRING CJ BACK!!!!

This would be awesome, would definately buy this first day of release. Even if it was just an update to HD and put on a blue-ray I would buy it. Any other extras would just be a generous bonus from R*.
Saying that would love to play vice city with decent gameplay, the only one of the PS2 5 I never bothered to get 100% on, gameplay is horrific.

Unfortunately they probably won’t do anything like that until another GTA comes out, a collection probably will come right before GTA:V is released

first of all: HELL YEAH!!! and second if rockstar knows their fans they probably would already be on a project like that, maybe even half done it by now. if they remake those great gta classics they will make a lot of their fans happy and they would make a large profit from it too. thats a no brainer.

i think it would be realy good to bring san andreas on to ps3 and xbox as long as they keep areoplane, n jumbo jets etc because i was a bit dissapointed when a couldnt use one on gta iv i still think san andreas is the is the best gta game.

The only reason someone will convince me to buy this GTA 3, San Andreas, Vice City Stories, Liberty City Stories all in one is:
1. HD Upgrade
2. PS3 Trophies
3. Commentary on making of the game.
4. Demo of next GTA Game (if there is)
5. Destroying all known glitches.
6. Online-Play (if any of the PS2 versions had online-play that is)
7. Basically to sum it up, it should be JUST like the GoW Collection. X)
you dont want to know what i would do for a HD, trophy enabled remake of the GTA series.
i wish sony would buy a developer and there sole job was taking ps1 or ps2 series and bringing them to the ps3.

only reason why i want remakes of these games is because old games are better than their new brothers.
for example resident evil is 10 times better than RE5.
devil may cry 2 is 10 times better than devil may cry 4.
crash bandicoot is 10 times better than say crash of the titans.
and so on, and so on.
ps1 games and some ps2 games are better than any ps3 game out there.
i have more fun playing my ps1 classics on my psp than i do playing my ps3 games.
Rockstar doesn’t have to do the work on this trilogy. Can’t they hire the people who did the God of War Collection? Just find a way to get rid of the popup issues. I don’t think the graphics need to be upgraded. It would be great to see the three games on one Blu-ray disc on the PS3.

I think that would be an amazing idea it would genreate a lot of revenue. I for one would be sure to pick that set up. I quite enjoyed the GTA series leading up to GTA IV [especially] San Andreas.(My favorite title of the bunch)

Like with the GOW Collection it would be good for gamers who never got a chance to play the PS2 version of theese games.
However i can’t imagine there are too many people out there who didn’t play theese games when they first came out, so if you already own theese games why would you want to buy them again?

Absolutely, Rockstar, absolutely! I would love to play those games again, in better (doesn’t have to be perfect) graphics, smoother gameplay and less bugs. I wouldn’t expect perfection, just obvious signs of work and I would buy that combo pack for $60 right now. Easy question…

I would definitely buy this. Day one. I have been wanting to play San Andreas again, along with GTA 3, on my big screen, not just on my PC. If they did this, all on one Blu-Ray, I would have a hard time not buying it on the day of release.

I would love Rockstar even more if they re-released all 3 GTAs on one Blu-ray. The following thing I would want Rockstar to do is:-
1.)720/1080p HD rebuild
2.) Have all 3 GTAs on one disc
3.) Redo the textures and lighting maybe even the models
4.) Make it have no loading times
5.) Ingame recording & ingame HDD music
6.) Add a freemode online(?!)
I would gladly put £65 down for that!
FUCK YEAH!!! If they re-released GTA:SA in HD and added online co-op and extra San Andreas episodes, that game would be the biggest selling game ever!! Fuck GTAIV, whatta disappointment! I wanna see more San Andreas stories!
I would love to see the God of War Collection treatment for these games, maybe put them to 1080p, add maybe 60 fps, 2x AA, improved lighting, textures, trophies, and they can improve the draw distance, and streaming, so games like GTA 3 can go freely one island to the other with no load screen! And then to top it off, have them all on one blu ray disc, with bonus features, such as the making of GTA etc. Also, even though i know this is getting a little to far in dreaming, they can add for San Andreas online modes, like for the mini games such as basketball, pool, as well as the co-op mode they have, maybe even making the co-op full split-screen ! I would love these upgrades, as they don’t necessarily mess with the core gameplay or change the classic GTA title, they will absolutely sell again, and might not even take that long, as God of War only took 3 months, and after the big attention and hype the next gen GTA has, so bringing the favorites will be worth it!
Love your contribution, yeah with the fanbase GTA has this could be a success for sure, it’s really a ‘present’ for the die-hard GTA fans who want to revisit the good ol’ times with some extra’s.
I’ve heard people say that the gameplay is to old compared to now, but like others stated as well: for the fans.
Yes please! – HD GTA 3 collection would not only sell well – it would remind us how good Rockstar were before they went the ‘realistic’ GTAIV route. I would definitely get this collection.
